Retired CW3 Edward C Berg passed away comfortably at home on May 30, 2024.
Edward was one of four sons (Robert, Frank, Dan) of Charles and Ruby Berg of Deerbrook. He is survived by two brothers Frank Berg of Bryant and Dan Berg of Deerbrook.
He married Dorothy Cahala of Jennings and they had 65 years together until her passing in 2020. They spent most of their early years traveling the world with Ed's military career, which included two tours in Vietnam, and many posts here in the US. His service awards are many: Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Star and 2 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, Senior Army Aviator Badge, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. While this is impressive it's the least to say about the man.
After retiring from the Army he entered the Civil Service teaching aircraft maintenance, then came home to the family farm for a short while and drove a school bus. Dorothy's illness led them back to Texas, where he entered the Postal Service from which he retired in 2006.
Edward is survived by four of his eight children, two daughters, Hope Berg and Amanda Michel of both of Antigo; two sons, Harold and Mark Berg of both of Gatesville, TX; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren.
Both Ed and Dorothy touched many lives in their time on earth, including the lives of 45 foster children and those who happen to be in need. Both lives well lived.
CW3 Edward C. Berg was a good officer and a great man. He will be missed.
